Abstract

The paper reports on the implementation of the European Commission-funded project CAMPS by the EuroEd primary school in Iasi, Romania in partnership with a number of educational institutions from Ireland, Italy, Spain, and Romania. The project rationale is based on the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach as used in primary schools, which is a quite novel approach as CLIL has been preponderantly applied in secondary schools. Given that language studies have consistently shown that foreign languages can be learned more easily at a younger age and that CLIL in particular has been found to favour the language learning process, the CAMPS project aims to develop increased awareness of the importance of CLIL methodology for primary schools. The project looks at specific ways of incorporating CLIL into school curricula with an emphasis on the arts and music and its practical applications, while also identifying its advantages over conventional approaches in terms of added value. We point out that the project provides a reliable and accessible e-course in methodological training that can enhance knowledge and skills in CLIL methodology, as well as easy and effective access to CLIL teaching tools for primary school teachers. The paper maps out an extensive overview of the project's goals, target groups, and key findings while illustrating the methodology. Further salient details on the online training programme, which is uploaded on a dedicated e-learning platform, are also presented.
