Dr Francesca Magnoni was born in Rome, Italy, where she graduated in Modern Languages and Literatures (English and German) in 2005. After the BA Degree she has been awarded with a one-year fellowship sponsored by the Institute of International Education, New York (USA), as Foreign Language Teaching Assistant for Italian at Wheaton College (Norton – Massachusetts). Since the academic year 2005-06 Francesca has been teaching Italian as a foreign language in third level education institutions both abroad and in Italy: Wheaton College, National University of Ireland, Galway, Dublin Institute of Technology, and Università di Roma Tor Vergata (Rome). She completed the Masters degree ITALS in Didactics of teaching Italian as a foreign language at the Università Ca’ Foscari (Venice, Italy) in 2007, and a PhD in Pedagogy of foreign language teaching at NUI Galway in 2011, with a main focus on Italian as a foreign language – advanced level; her PhD research project focused particularly on the use of literary texts and hypertexts in foreign language classes.
Francesca’s main research interest is about foreign language teaching methodologies and learning process, second language acquisition and cognitive linguistics; more in detail her research work is about use of literary texts and the role of emotions and experience for vocabulary retention, hypertexts and new technologies in language teaching and learning. Since 2013 her research interest focused more and more on the use ICT in foreign language teaching, in particular on e-learning and language learning. Several published articles, her Master dissertation and the PhD thesis are all retrievable online.
