Transforming Language Learning through Innovation: Integrating Technology for Enhanced Engagement and Proficiency

Majed Abu Dabeel, Imam Mohammed Ibn Saud University (Saudi Arabia)

Abstract

In the evolving landscape of language education, innovative methodologies are essential to enhance learner engagement and proficiency. This paper explores the impact of integrating technology-driven approaches, such as artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and adaptive learning systems, into language instruction. These tools provide personalised learning experiences, fostering motivation and improving language retention. The study examines the effectiveness of digital platforms, mobile applications, and AI-assisted feedback systems in facilitating language acquisition. Additionally, it evaluates the role of gamification and immersive environments in fostering learner autonomy. By analysing recent research and case studies, this paper highlights best practices for educators aiming to implement cutting-edge techniques in their classrooms. Findings indicate that the combination of innovative pedagogical strategies with emerging technologies significantly enhances the learning experience, leading to higher engagement and improved linguistic outcomes. However, challenges such as accessibility, teacher training, and curriculum integration must be addressed to maximise the benefits of these innovations. This research contributes to the ongoing discourse on modernising language education by offering practical insights into the adoption of technology-based solutions. The study underscores the need for continuous adaptation in teaching methodologies to meet the demands of an increasingly digitalised world.
