Abstract
The present research focuses on the area of reading literacy and its development in the undergraduate preparation of primary education teachers in the Czech Republic. The aim is to investigate how teacher education academics evaluate the current state of teaching literacy and what methods and approaches they consider effective for its development in future teachers. The research will be conducted through semi-structured interviews with academics involved in undergraduate teacher education. This qualitative method of data collection will provide detailed information on how literacy is integrated into the curricula of primary school first grade teacher education programmes across the Czech Republic and what challenges and opportunities professionals see in the area of literacy and its development. The results of the research will provide valuable insights for improving the preparation of primary teachers and offer recommendations for the development of literacy in undergraduate education.
