From Awareness to Action: A Practical Workshop Model to Prevent Digital Addiction in Schools
Esra Kesim, Simav District Directorate of National Education, Türkiye (Turkey)
Abstract
The growing use of digital devices among children and adolescents has increased concerns about digital addiction and its negative effects on learning, attention, and social interaction, making it increasingly important for schools to promote responsible technology use and digital wellbeing among students.
This paper presents a Digital Addiction Prevention Workshop implemented in a public education setting in Türkiye, where students participated in interactive learning activities including guided discussions, group tasks focused on self-regulation strategies, and educational smart games designed to encourage offline engagement, cooperation, and awareness of personal digital habits.
Reflection activities and observations indicated that students became more aware of their own screen use and digital behaviors, suggesting that short, structured, and activity-based workshops can be a practical and effective approach for helping schools address digital addiction and support healthier technology habits among learners.
