The Ultimate Anti-Plagiarism Solution for All
The Turnitin workshop will illustrate the benefits of our plagiarism prevention software and will detail the simple steps of how and why it could benefit any institution. We outline the main features of how Turnitin scans submissions for any matched or similar content against the worlds most accurate text comparison database. Turnitin started its humble beginnings back in 1996 when four UC Berkeley graduate students developed a peer review application to use in their graduate student classes. Many years have passed since then, and the prototype has now developed into the worlds leading plagiarism detection software.
The programme scans submitted documents against a vast database of more than 34 billion pages, 300 million archived student papers and over 120 million articles from journals and other printed sources. There are, on average, 300 thousand papers added to the system every day.
The database also supports 15 languages and is growing at an impressive rate: Italian, French, Spanish, Dutch and German, in addition to Arabic and Chinese are amongst the many languages featured on Turnitin. In particular, the newly launched Italian website includes invaluable information and tools required in fostering originality in student work and helping students and teachers to focus on improving confidence and writing skills.
The system is equally impressive when it comes to fitting in with your current VLE, and Turnitin works seamlessly with the most widely used such as Moodle and Blackboard. During the workshop we will explain how an Originality Report is produced and how it can be analysed further. In addition, we will also demonstrate GradeMark, the feature which allows teachers to give tailored feedback in various formats, including voice comments.
By showcasing the features offered by the software, our workshop aims to be a step by step introduction to how Turnitin can be used for checking for originality as well as providing feedback to students.
