Enhancing Intercultural Competence through French Language Teaching: A Classroom-Based Approach
Naima Amal, French Teacher (Algeria)
Abstract
In today’s increasingly interconnected world, language learning goes beyond grammar and vocabulary—it also fosters intercultural understanding and global citizenship. This paper explores practical strategies for integrating cultural elements into French language teaching in secondary schools.
The study highlights classroom-based activities that combine literature, media, and authentic materials to strengthen both linguistic proficiency and intercultural competence. By analyzing students’ responses and classroom interactions, the research demonstrates how exposure to cultural content enhances motivation, communication skills, and critical thinking.
The presentation will provide examples of effective practices, including project-based learning, role-playing, and comparative analysis of French and local traditions. The ultimate goal is to show how language education can serve not only as a tool for communication, but also as a bridge between cultures, contributing to mutual respect, tolerance, and social cohesion in diverse societies.
