Story-Driven Grammar: Teaching Hebrew Tenses, Numbers, and Parts of Speech through Immersive Digital Narratives
Nagam Abo Siam, Hebrew Language Teacher (Israel)
Abstract
Traditional grammar instruction often relies on abstract rules and rote memorization, which can disengage young learners in the digital age. This presentation introduces an innovative, narrative-driven pedagogical model that leverages digital storytelling to transform Hebrew grammar and vocabulary acquisition into an engaging adventure.
Using creative scenarios—such as a train journey where each station represents a specific verb tense—this method serves as an adaptable framework that can be applied to virtually any grammar topic, including verb tenses, numbers, parts of speech, and more. Through original illustrated stories and interactive video narratives, students explore immersive scenarios, encounter new everyday vocabulary, and practice target linguistic rules in context. By aligning modern digital teaching methods with creative storytelling, this approach breaks down learning barriers, bridges theoretical grammar with natural communication, and significantly enhances student comprehension, retention, and active engagement.
