Susana Nicolas, University of Almeria (Spain)

Abstract

The increased popularity of portable media players has turned podcasting into a very interesting resource for college professors to distribute the contents of their subjects. Listening at a convenient time and place and the possibility to carry out other tasks while listening include only some of the advantages present in this teaching and learning medium. This paper will define podcasting and its educational potential, shortly presenting successful studies on this area. Then, it will describe the experience of the creation of podcasts by postgraduate students on business English. Based on real data from the course materials, the project will explore the communicative and technological competences acquired in the process as well as the possibilities of this tool for English language teaching. The participants needed to handle real data from companies of the province in the creation of the podcast. As conclusion, we present a survey with the students’ opinions about the activity and the learning outcomes they achieved.
