Abstract
The purpose of this research is to investigate views of pre-service science teachers about energy and related concepts to energy. This concept has importance to search because it is seemed that the energy concept is generally used different meanings in different disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science and etc in spite of the fact that it doesn’t have different meanings. Therefore, the meaning of energy concept, transformation of energy and preservation of energy in different disciplines were aimed to investigate deeply in pre-service science teachers who will teach these concepts in their work life. In accordance with this purpose, ‘Inter-disciplinary Energy Concept Assessment (IDEA)’ which was data collection tool in the research was adapted to Turkish and the reliability and validity of the tool was done. The ‘Exploratory Sequential Design’ in which qualitative data follows quantitative data results from mixed methods was used. The sample of the study was four hundreds pre-service science teachers in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades in a public university in Aegean region of Turkey. 400 pre-service science teachers had IDEA test and then 40 pre-service science teachers (10 pre-service science teachers from each degree) were interviewed in order to investigate the test results deeply. The qualitative and quantitative data is in the evaluation process and results will be presented in the extended paper.
