Faculty Perception on Barriers to Use of ICT in Higher Education

Abstract

The purpose of the current research is to identify the obstacles for using information technology and communications (ICT) in the process of the students' teaching and learning from the viewpoint of the Faculty Members of Islamic Azad University, Central Tehran campus. The study is descriptive-correlational in nature. Among 973 populations, 177 of faculty members were selected as the sample through random sampling method. For the data collection, a researcher made questionnaire at Lickert's five degree scale was used. The validity of the questionnaires was determined by content validity and by conduction a pilot study for 30 faculty members, the reliability of the instrument was calculated by Cronbach Alpha equal to 0.84. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS including descriptive statistics; and to test the research questions, inferential statistic including Pearson's Coefficient correlation, one sample t-test were used. The findings of the study indicate faculty members’ knowledge and skills in ICT use, the their belief on the effectiveness of ICT, the curriculum planning in accordance with the principles of ICT, the existence of hardware, equipment and educational facilities in the campus, and the existence of space and financial possibilities in the campus are effective in the students' teaching and learning process.
