The Future of Education

The process of globalization and the unavoidable spread of the English language to the remotest parts of the world have posed the need for many people who had not previously considered learning it to go back to classrooms and try to get at least a working knowledge of this language. In the Albanian context, a great number of adults have had to reconsider going back to language tutoring to learn English since they need it in their jobs or to find one. This great need to be able to maintain the pace of the rapidly developing world had given rise to this need of adults to learn English. A great number of them report that they have difficulty learning a second language at this point in their lives. Therefore, this paper will focus on the various factors that facilitate this teaching and learning process when Albanian adults return to a classroom to learn English. This article will consider some of the basic theoretical observations which lay the foundation for the general understanding of second language acquisition and how it relates to age and adulthood. Further, it will also present concrete evidence from field work and surveys conducted with Albanian adults who have been through such an experience. The many factors that seem to facilitate this process are grouped under two categories: internal factors and external factors. Each section will receive its due treatment in light of the theoretical background and the useful data analysis which will come as a result of the personal experience in this field. Finally, it will conclude with findings and recommendations which will be useful in this process.
