Business Games as a Tool for Increasing Quality of Education

Abstract

One of the most difficult tasks for education is to balance contradiction between past and future and between quantity and quality of information. Contemporary life connect with grand flow of information and people can not enough time to receive and than to understand and realize it for implementation. So we need innovative technologies in education to prepare people for such situation.

Social life connects with a lot of innovations as in technical devices as well as in social life. Technologies became more and more difficult and demand complicated organization for functioning. Previous epochs (before the XXI century) educated individualities, but now we need teach  (not only to educate people but also equip them with the skills to be able to solve) command of people for solving most problems in social and technology life. One example can serve a modern production of a car which needs thousands of different details and operations and there is 2% of time for automatic processes only and 98% connect with organization of a process.  So it can be argued that there is a new demand of time for training people to work together in one team. And people need more to study self organization and team work and we have to use new methodology for it.

To make education more effective in preparing specialists, we need to find and adopt new technologies for education such as business games.

In Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of Russian Federation we design a set of business games devoted to train students in the skills of management of destructive social process. This way demand change educative strategy and help fin decision for social contradicts.

In this paper we want to discuss from one hand how new innovation’s social processes demand new approaches in educational technologies, from the other hand that we are faced with a lot of problems connect with inertia of educational programs.

We want to discuss one more point too. In particular, now we have common program for all students and do not consider their abilities. But when we are training the team we can see  people there are having different roles in their teams.

The second point is using mathematical modeling for social processes. It is a good opportunity for seeing different sceneries after making decision. We apply business games for decisions making in the conditions of uncertainty and for us important to show our students ways to decrease this uncertainty.

The most important thing is also what kind of modeling we are using. We have different ways for social modeling. For example we can use imitation models and soft models with low quantity of parameters. Most often we are using cognitive models, but for specifically  processes as for epidemic processes we designed multiagent model for simulation process.

The using of models and process of modeling during classes needs special methodology and a lot of time for preparing every class. To lessen the time for student preparing we are using numerous innovation methods, such as information exploring of competitive prospecting and special methodic of visualization of information and presentation for decision making. Every step is very important for a common result.

We can add that using group work and work in teams helps students realize their opportunities for different roles and study working together.

In the process of business games thanks to modeling students found that that the preventive measures are more effective then reaction after events. All these require that the urgent social measures are taken to prevent further spread of the destructive social processes and we have to manage such processes. When Students are studying social behavior they find management factors for destructive social- process and receiving a new technology for work in the team and for making management decision.

The paper concludes education will therefore acquire a new dimension, and the quality of education will became a new characteristic for the entire process from monitoring in the very beginning until the end.
