Immacolata D’Acunto has a degree in Physics; she has been a high-school Mathematics and Physics teacher since 1999 and is currently on study leave and completing the final year of her PhD. Her research area is Physics Education at the Department of Physics of the University of Salerno (Italy). She has five teaching qualifications and six Masters degrees in the field of Education. She also has five years of experience (September 1995 to September 1999) as a Product Engineer at Texas Instruments Italy (AQ) (which later became Micron Electronics), a microelectronics multinational.
She has taught on over twenty “Piano Operativo Nazionale” courses -EU funded projects- for school teachers and pupils of varying levels for Maths, Physics and ICT. Since 2002 she has collaborated with the Department of Physics of the University of Salerno on education and scientific dissemination activities, and more specifically on projects to plan, create and animate interactive science exhibits called "Divertiesperimenti". Her long term objective is help to foster a link between educational research and the school curriculum; she is currently organising some educational training courses for high school teachers, on effective methodologies for laboratory teaching.
She has published scientific papers in national and international science and educational journals.
