Jörn Lübben

Institution: Albstadt-Sigmaringen University

Country: Germany

Jörn Felix Lübben is a professor at the University of Applied Sciences Albstadt-Sigmaringen. The priorities of the university are in four areas: engineering, computer sciences, life sciences, business science and management.

Jörn Felix Lübben studied Theoretical and Physical Chemistry, in particular molecular spectroscopy (UV-VIS, Raman and infrared), at the University of Duisburg-Essen. He applied these technologies to the chemical analysis of microparticles, especially atmospheric aerosols.

After an internship at the Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures de Paris, graduating with his diploma in chemistry in 1992, and activities as a research assistant, he received his doctorate in 1997 at the University of Duisburg-Essen with his doctor thesis entitled “Raman-spektrometrische Charakterisierung physikalischer und chemischer Eigenschaften optisch livitierter Aerosol-Einzelpartikel: Optimierung eines kompakten Einzelpartikelanalysators”.

This was followed by employments as a researcher and project leader at the University of Duisburg-Essen, the Dutch University of Twente in Enschede (1999-2000), the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPI-P) in Mainz (2000- 2003), the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (EMPA, Switzerland) and at the international Swiss manufacturer of precision instruments for chemical analysis, especially ion analysis, Metrohm in Herisau, Switzerland.

Jörn has published numerous publications in the fields of surface science, nanotechnology, electrochemistry, and fiber development for civil engineering in renowned scientific journals. His activities and publications have brought him recognition, including the Paul Schlack Man-Made Fibres Prize (2007) and the EMPA Innovation Award (2009).

Since 2011, Jörn is a professor at the Albstadt-Sigmaringen University in the faculty of engineering. His areas of expertise for research, project management and teaching include functionalization and testing of textile products, product technology of innovative materials, technical textiles, automation technology, statistics, technical thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, textile ecology, smart materials, intelligent textiles and surface functionalization.

Since the very beginning of his university career, Jörn Lübben is involved in academic teaching programs and has initiated innovative research projects. For example, the Ministry for Sciences, Research and the Arts Baden-Wuerttemberg has promoted the project "Welcome to Science!" (2012-2015). Additionally, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports the interdisciplinary research and development project "Temperature-responsive Polymers for Use in Smart Textiles" (2015-2018).

Areas of expertise: Research and development, physical chemistry, technical textiles, surface functionalization, project management, higher education, adult education, e-learning
