Stuart Norris is a PhD student in the College of Social Science. He came to higher education after a seven year career in teaching in which he had an assortment of academic and pastoral roles including Head of Internal Assessment, APP co-ordinator, Head of Biology, NQT mentor, advanced skills coach, Head of Key stage 5 Science and Head of Sixth Form. Although Stuart’s primary experience is with the 11-19 age range he has also taken part in implementing educational bridging units for feeder primary schools. This was to aid in the transfer of students from primary to secondary school and is a key component in his interest within educational research. His PhD is focused on the short and medium term effects of open evenings and induction days on students’ attitudes towards science across transfer from primary to secondary school.
