He earned a master's degree in Philosophy of Science at the Autonomous Metropolitan University UAM and a PhD in Philosophy of Science at the UNAM, with research stays at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Octavio has worked in the philosophy of cancer research, towards a transdisciplinary and complex system perspective of cancer.
Octavio is also Professor at the Faculty of Science and in the Diploma in Medicine and Complexity of the Faculty of Medicine, UNAM, where he teaches subjects related to the articulation of Science-Society-Nature-History.
He has been awarded the Medal of Merit of the UAM University and has won first place in competitions of scientific test (Fondo de Cultura Economica) and political (Revista Proceso).
He is a founding member of the Inter-institutional Seminary of Philosophy of Biology (UAM-UNAM-UACM), Seminar of Representation and Modelling UAM-C, and the Science and Humanism Program of the Faculty of Sciences. Octavio has spoken at various national and international conferences, and has several publications in national and international journals. Currently he is a a postdoctoral researcher at the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana-Cuajimalpa.
Areas of expertise: Philosophy of Science, social studies of biomedical sciences, complex systems, transdisciplinary research, critical and decolonial thinking, cancer as a complex disease.
