G. Pestal was born 1968 and raised in Austria.
Graduated from Vienna University of Technology TU in 1994 with Master of Science in Bio- & Food Chemistry. Earned a second Master of Science in Science Education at Vienna University in 1999.
Started teaching science in various subjects and levels around Vienna in 1994 and continued with this work for the last 22 years.
G. Pestal served one term 2008/09 as a member of a national team of teachers in an official exchange program with the USA.
After returning home he spent considerable time and efforts for several science educational activities throughout Europe. Mentionable being selected as one of 15 EU science teachers for an annual training program for the ESA Europ. Space Agency aiming for better science education in schools in 2011. Participation in the 1. SCIENTIX Science Education Conference in Brussels and Int'l. Science EXPO in Bratislava.
2012 he became increasingly engaged in the concept of the Science Garage as presented in this conference. This concept was improved on a constant basis and discussed especially with several European but also Asian academic audiences, notably as in Pingtung University of Education in Taiwan later that year.
G. Pestal found that in several Asian countries science education is more intensified and appreciated quite higher as in Europe, where science education is sometimes neglected to some extent in favor of other subjects.
As logical consequences, some large international Science Fairs with over 1000 participants in Nanjing, China and Abu Dhabi, UAE followed up in 2013 with G. Pestal as speaker or course educator.
G.Pestal is still working as science teacher in a private school center in downtown Vienna, focusing at heterogenous and multi-ethnical, multi-lingual classrooms.
G. Pestal is currently looking for an opportunity to join an internationally based Ph.D. program in Science Education, most favourably in cooperation with Universities for Education in Asia with high interest in academic exchanges with the European education scene.
