Carol Callinan is a senior lecturer in education at the University of Lincoln.
Carol graduated in psychology in 2007, since then she has completed a master’s degree in Child Studies and a PhD in Education in 2014. Throughout her career Carol has had research interests in education and the application of psychological theories to the actual learning process.
In her PhD work Carol developed a multimodal, task based approach to studying children’s ideas in science in order to explore how these change and develop during the course of specific activities and over time. The results drawn from this work revealed the importance of exploring a range of response types, and in particular gestures, in order to gain a holistic overview of children’s knowledge and its subsequent change particularly if children were not able to clearly or fully articulate what they know and can do.
Carol’s teaching experience includes psychology, special educational needs and inclusion and education studies. In her current role in the School of Education, University of Lincoln, she contributes to the PGCE programmes, the EdD programme and supervises PhD students.
Carol is a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), and the European Science Education Research Association (ESERA).
