Andrea Basso is associate professor at the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry of the University of Genova
. His main field of expertise is Organic Chemistry.
Andrea graduated in Chemistry from the University of Genova in 1995. He then obtained his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Southampton (UK) in 2000.
Before returning to Genova, where he became assistant professor in 2005, he worked as a researcher at the University of Halle (D) and at the Pharmazentrum of the University of Basel (CH), where he gained experience in modern organic synthesis focused at the preparation of biologically active molecules.
Andrea is currently carrying out independent research in the fields of multicomponent reactions and photochemistry, giving particular attention to environmental and sustainability issues. He is author of about 90 peer-reviewed papers and 8 book chapters in these fields.
He has been invited lecturer at many symposia, universities and private companies, he has been member of the organizing and/or scientific committee of four international symposia. He has been editor of the international journal Diversity Oriented Synthesis.
Beside research interests, Andrea has been also involved in the dissemination of science and in the orientation of high school students towards university courses. This latter activity is the subject of the presentation “Improving the interest of high-school students toward chemistry by Crime Scene Investigation”.
