Natalie Taupe

Institution: University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien

Country: Austria

Natalie graduated in Environmental System Science and Chemistry, an interdisciplinary Master’s programme, from the Karl Franzens University Graz, Austria in 2012. She then pursued a PhD as part of a Marie Curie project at the University of Limerick, Ireland in the field of thermal treatment technologies of agricultural waste, in particular gasification and pyrolysis. From 2017 to 2020 she worked as an Engineer in the cable and harness and then in the pharmaceutical industry. Her work mainly focused on process validation, equipment qualifications and process optimisation using the principles of LEAN/Six Sigma. Since 2020 she is working as part of the research group “Resilient Energy Systems” at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien.

The research group “Resilient Energy Systems” is an interdisciplinary team with expertise in social sciences (e.g. anthropology, sociology, international studies), natural sciences (e.g. ecology, chemistry, bioresources), and technical sciences (e.g. renewable energy technologies, building technologies). The main research area is technology assessment, which includes methods such as life cycle assessment (LCA), and user and stakeholder integration. Often the research methods involve external experts from different disciplines, companies and the civil society in form of interviews, workshops, and questionnaires. One of the main research areas of Natalie is developing sustainability criteria and indicators for energy technologies, systems and energy communities. Natalie is also a lecturer of process optimisation and the fundamentals of sustainability.

Areas of expertise: environmental system science, technology assessment, chemistry, process optimisation, sustainability, project planning and management, assessment and evaluation, higher education.
