Abstract
United by the European Green Deal’s goal - for Europe to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050, green – related to “natural and semi-natural areas with other environmental features” and blue initiatives – related to blue economy and covering oceans and seas (European Commission, 2024), as well as nature-based solutions inspired by both “for the benefit of all EU citizens and biodiversity”, lie at the forefront of sustainability in STEM education in Europe. Indeed, an ever-growing number of projects on these topics is continuously supported by the European Union’s programmes for research and innovation, education and mobility. Shedding light on these dedicated efforts, this paper by Ivanova, I. et al, will provide an informed practice-based insight into the work of select green and blue education projects in education for environmental sustainability (EES) across the European diaspora, and their efforts to introduce and maintain sustainability topics in education. Varied pedagogical methods and adaptive needs-based tools, as well as innovative training opportunities for teachers and educators of all age groups and forms of education, will be highlighted.
