Abstract
The growing incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) in various areas of society has had a significant impact on the field of education, especially in higher education. AI has been used as a support tool to personalise learning, expand access to knowledge, optimise resources and make the teaching process more dynamic and effective, through technologies such as intelligent tutoring systems. However, its implementation also poses significant challenges, such as the need to train teachers, ethical and legal issues, technological dependence and technical and financial limitations. Given this scenario, the following research problem arises: how do university students perceive the use of artificial intelligence in higher education and what positive and negative aspects are most evident in this perception? The aim of this study is to analyse the perceptions of students from higher education institutions in Brazil and Portugal about the use of AI in the academic context, identifying the perceived benefits, the limitations pointed out and the possible impacts on their educational trajectories. The research will adopt a quantitative methodological approach, using questionnaires as a data collection instrument. It is concluded that the critical, ethical and contextualised implementation of artificial intelligence in higher education.
