The Role of Non-Formal Educational Institutions for Inclusive Community Development in Quetta (Pakistan)

Abstract

Issue
Formal education system is not in such capacity to architect inclusive community development in our society. In order to bring social change in any society, grass root level civil societies could play a vital role in human rights promotion and development. In this regard, around 13 youth-led educational institutions have been working in education, ICT sectors for promotion of peace education, non-violent social behavior change, human rights development to youth (12-35 age grps) in Quetta. Lack of proper educational system lead the youth towards extremism and violence.

Methodology
These have been providing formal, non-formal education, ICT training, awareness on HRE and leadership development. The programs are designed to involve youth male/female from diverse communities for behavioral change, inclusive sustainability; entrepreneurship & HR awareness. Educational experts, intellectuals, NGOs members are invited to project concepts on peace education, social democracy, community participation, human rights education/promotion, and SDGs.

Program intervention
Information on social/cultural change and inclusive sustainable development. Distribution of literature regarding community development, Teacher-students meeting, inters debate competition, social gathering with community leaders, cultural activities and workshops on human rights education.

Results
The ultimate objectives are to empower youth for leadership role at grass root level within their communities to promote HR, peace building, social entrepreneurship, communal harmony and active participation. 

Recommendations
These institutions are making positive impact enabling the youth for their active involvement in HRE, community and social activism thus minimizing communal violence at family and community level.  For more meaningful involvement of positive youth needs on going process and resources. Follow up efforts will be directed towards the formation of positive youth groups. They shall be able to provide peer support and replicate the acquired skills, once trained for inclusive sustainability and social development.
