Abstract

The teacher-student knowledge exchange (TSKE) is a concept that combines the assumptions of SECI knowledge creation and exchange with the LMX theory as a means to explaining knowledge creation and sharing in an academic environment, especially in higher institutions. The present global knowledge economy suggest that organisational relevance is achieved and sustained by the inclusion of knowledge as the fundamental resource in business processes. Consequently, knowledge creation and exchange, knowledge-based innovation and knowledge-based interactions have become significant themes in organisational existence. Even in higher institutions, the importance of teacher-students’ knowledge-based interactions cannot be overlooked. Be that as it may, the sustainability of knowledge creation in organisations can only be achieved by a continuous process of new knowledge introduction in organisational work processes.  Thus, organisational members, as they graduate from higher institutions, become agents of this new knowledge creation. Having higher institutions in which knowledge creation and exchange processes is largely de-emphasised and not practiced, therefore, results in graduates’ inability to invent knowledge that is necessary to foster organisational and economic competitiveness. Consequently, the challenge of graduate employability could result. Consequently, descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. The respondents of the study comprises of 214 Business Education students studying Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Human Resource Management and Marketing Courses. The respondents were drawn from two Nigerian private Universities with verified high profile, namely: Covenant University and The Bells University of Technology. Copies of structured questionnaire were administered to the respondents as part of data gathered measures for the research work. Based on the findings from the data analysis, recommendations that enhance theory and practice of business education and knowledge exchange in higher institutions were proffered.
