Abstract

At the end of the Brazilian High School, the graduated students have the possibility of entering a university course through several types of exams offered by the universities and higher education institutions of the country. The National Higher Education Exam (ENEM) is one of the most sought after, which provides through performance access to government grants for those who wish to study in a private institution and vacancies for those who wish to study at a federal public institution, which is free in the country. However, this examination has a unified curricular proposal for the whole country, which faces different cultural and socioeconomic achievements in its various regions, making non-uniform school development. Besides, different states of the country are used to adopting different curricula. The object of study analyzed in this paper was the evolution of our students who accepted to participate in additional classes of Mathematics focused on their development for this national examination. The contents covered during these classes were planned together with teachers and students, where teachers could mediate contents based on school performance of each student in regular classes and analyzing what the exam would require and students could contribute by asking for study on topics of mathematics in which they had more difficulties or did not know how to handle. These topics were studied until both sides of the process agree that the students learned. Besides this evolution, we compared the performance in the Mathematics exam with other students who did not participate in these classes and with students graduated in this teaching institution in previous years.
