Teaching Practices in Physical Education in Colombia: A Brief State of the Art

Abstract

Physical education teaching, in Colombia, has generally been debated among three major paradigms, on the one hand, a way of working with children and young people that emphasizes the importance of sports training and general knowledge of the characteristics of regulations of some sports of national predilection; on the other hand, an integral vision of the body that links physical fitness with elements of values ​​and reflection on the apparent duality mind-body,  and finally, a type of physical education that privileges the competition and the physical performance. This situation accounts for a field in dispute on the part of different training schools of physical educators and different motivations according to the convictions of each perspective. In Colombia, although there are pedagogical guidelines for the area, it is informed that regardless of the perspective that it is handled, there is no articulation between these practices and the rest of the curriculum or school areas. For this reason, many of the subjects that bet for an integral formation of the students and that affect their psychological and corporal balance end up expanding the split and fragmentation of the notion of body and its care. The purpose of this paper is to recognize the most frequent educational trends in Colombia in the area of ​​physical education and to clarify the notions of corporality and self-care that sustain them, in the same way, to make visible significant educational practices that opt ​​for an integrating vision and of cross curricular thematic. It is also expected that as a result of this work, work networks and international cooperation will be possible to conform research networks on the subject and to generate comparative studies by countries or regions.
