Expressive Approaches as a Tool for Promoting Personality Development in Primary School Pupils

Tereza Telekyová, Palacký University Olomouc (Czech Republic)

Abstract

Primary school plays a key role in the overall education and life success of an individual. Creating an environment that fosters holistic personal development includes not only access to knowledge, but also emotional, social and moral aspects. This support has many important influences that affect a child's life and future. I would like to present my dissertation project, which focuses on the personality development of pupils in primary school, both for intact pupils and for pupils with intellectual disabilities, my dissertation discusses targeted interventions for the development of pupils' personality in the areas of communication, assertive behaviour and soft skills. I focus on the issue of the absence of psychoeducation or the inclusion of elements of psychotherapy in the personality development of primary school pupils in the area of pro-social behaviour.

The research part of the thesis is based on quantitative research using an experimental design in which two groups are compared - control and experimental groups, the experimental group then receive interventions through expressive therapies that focus on the development of assertive behaviour, communication and soft skills Both groups include both pupils with intellectual disabilities and intact pupils, which allows to observe the effect of expressive therapies on social behaviour and the development of communication skills within inclusive education. The research uses a pre-test and a post-test to evaluate changes after the intervention program.

The results of my research then analyse whether the provision of expressive therapeutic interventions will help in the development of prosocial behaviour in both intact and mentally disabled pupils, I also focus on the development of a methodology of individual expressive therapeutic techniques in the context of the development of assertiveness and soft skills

The main contribution of the study lies in linking therapeutic interventions with inclusive educational practices and highlighting the importance of psychoeducation in the educational process. The results can contribute to the optimization of pedagogical strategies and to the development of inclusive educational environments. Therefore, I would like to present partial results of my dissertation work and highlight the topic of psychoeducation in the educational process.
