Abstract
Adjunct faculty play a significant role in academic success in higher education. According to TIAA Institute (2018), seventy-four percent of adjuncts teach in higher education, yet often feel excluded and lack the resources they need to succeed. With the growing demand for more faculty, higher education institutions should prioritize the development of adjunct faculty. It is important to help support adjunct faculty through institutional support with campus resources and their functions to ensure student success. Through mentoring and training for adjunct faculty, colleges and universities can uphold the rigor and standards of a post-secondary classroom (Danei, 2019). This paper will explore how a midsize community college implemented systems of support for adjunct faculty. Included will be practical strategies to bridge the gap between the college and adjunct faculty to establish confidence in teaching college-level content with the academic support from experienced full-time faculty, resources of the college campus, and content-specific professional development ideas to enhance the classroom experience.
