Sonia Rocca obtained a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh, specializing in the acquisition of a second language in childhood. She is the author of "Child Second Language Acquisition" (Benjamins, Amsterdam, 2007). She has taught French and English at secondary level in Italy and Italian at primary, secondary and university levels in Britain. She has also taught graduate courses at NYU Steinhardt School of Education and has led professional development courses for teachers internationally. She currently teaches Italian at the Lycée Français de New York, where she is researching the role of mobile technology in middle school children learning a foreign language. Her research interests include: child and adolescent second language acquisition, foreign language education, differentiated instruction, mobile language learning.
