Martin Zahariev

Martin Zahariev, PhD, graduated with honours from Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, Faculty of Law (LL.M.) in 2014. Together with his colleagues, he won first prize in the National Competition in Law of the European Union EUROPAEUS and was part of the Sofia University team that received an Honourable Mention for Werner Melis Award Best Memorandum for Respondent in Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot: the most prestigious competitions in the area of international commercial arbitration.

Martin Zahariev holds an educational and scientific degree “doctor’’ at the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies (ULSIT), Sofia. His doctoral dissertation is entitled Organization and Management of Automated Profiling in the Context of Personal Data Protection.

He is a Trademark and Design Attorney at the Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria, as well as a European Trademark and Design Attorney.

Martin Zahariev is an associate at one of the leading Bulgarian law firms Dimitrov, Petrov & Co. (https://www.dpc.bg/en/), as well as an expert at the Law and Internet Foundation, a research center for law and information technologies (https://www.netlaw.bg/en). He specializes in the areas of personal data protection, employment law, international arbitration, life sciences regulation and intellectual property.

He is the author of two monographs in the field of personal data protection – Automated Profiling and Personal Data Protection. Analysis of the GDPR (2018) and Data Protection in Commercial Arbitration: In the Light of GDPR, (2019), as well as of numerous articles and analysis in the field of personal data protection, commercial arbitration, employment and commercial law. Martin Zahariev is also a lecturer in various disciplines related to ICT law, regime of information, basics of law and personal data protection in the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies and Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. Martin is a guest lecturer on the topic of personal data protection regime at the American University in Bulgaria and the Technical University of Sofia.

He is a member of Sofia Bar Association and the International Moot Court Competitions Association.
