Matea Butković is an EFL lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka, Croatia, where she teaches EFL courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.
She received her M.A. degree from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Rijeka, Croatia and Ph.D. degree from the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. Her research interests are oriented towards analyzing the implementation of intercultural values and principles in the Croatian educational system, multicultural literature, intercultural communicative competence, and EFL teacher education.
She is currently involved in two scientific research projects at the University of Rijeka: Picture book in the kindergarten and elementary school and Professional development needs, conditions and learning opportunities of teacher education students and teachers.
She regularly attends national and international scientific conferences and professional trainings on intercultural education and EFL instruction and is an active member of the Croatian Association of Teachers of English (HUPE), the Association of LSP Teachers at Higher Education Institutions, the Croatian Association of Researchers of Children's Literature, and the Croatian Association for American Studies.
As part of her professional activity, she translates books and scientific papers in the field of teachers’ continuous professional development, teacher and preschool teacher education, and psychology. She is currently actively involved as a foreign language mentor in the pilot project I PLAY, I RESEARCH, I REALIZE for gifted fifth-grade pupils, funded by the City of Rijeka.
