Dr Marie Thomas is Director of Research and a Senior Lecturer at The Dyscovery Centre based at the University of South Wales. The Dyscovery Centre is a center of excellence for children and adults with Specific Learning Difficulties (e.g. dyslexia, Developmental Coordination Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder). The Dyscovery Centre has a multidisciplinary clinical service for the assessment of children and adults, conducts high profile research, runs accredited courses and provides bespoke training for health and educational professionals.
She has a PhD in Psychology and is a Chartered Psychologist. Marie has conducted research in psychology for over 20 years and during this time has published articles in many peer-review journals and spoken at conferences.
More recently, Marie has been involved with two European projects funded by the Life Long Learning programme:
• Language Meets Intercultural Competencies (LiMErIC) project which aimed to develop a blended learning programme on language development and intercultural issues for those working in pre-school child care
• Dyslexia and additional language learning (Dyslang) project which aimed to develop an e-learning programme for teachers supporting pupils with dyslexia who were learning an additional language
