Robert O. Slater

Robert O. Slater is the Paul Burdin Professor of Education in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Louisiana.

Robert holds a PhD in Education Policy from the University of Chicago and a Master’s in Education Policy from Harvard University. He was a Fulbright Scholar to Peru in 1996, to Bolivia in 2010, and to Greece in 2018. Before joining the faculty at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, he held faculty positions at the University of Maryland, The Louisiana State University, and Texas A&M. From 1986-1988 he was Senior Research Associate for the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. where he directed the DOE’s educational leadership initiatives.

His books include the forthcoming, How to Do a Dissertation with Government Data, by Rowman and Littlefield, The Values of American Teachers, published in 2014 also by Rowman and Littlefield, Ensayos Sobre Democracia, Educacion y El Experimento Americano. Published in 2000 by the Catholic University of Lima, Peru, and Educating Democracy with Gary Crow and published by the National Policy Board in Educational Administration, Washington, D.C., in 1996. His articles have appeared in Education Next, The Teachers College Record, Educational Administration Quarterly, The Dictionary of Modern American Philosophers, and Phi Delta Kappan. The NASSP Bulletin, and Educacion.
