Valérie Pruvost

Valérie Pruvost received her doctorate in Romance Languages-French from The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 2002. She taught at Wake Forest University before returning to teach French and Francophone Studies at the University of North Carolina where she is currently the Director of French Language Instruction, a Teaching Professor, and the Summer School Administrator for the Department of Romance Studies. She teaches all levels of French language courses, elementary through intermediate, conversation, as well as grammar, healthcare, and culture courses.

Over the years, she coordinated several different levels of French. For fifteen years, she was also a Faculty Advisor for the Humanities, Fine Arts, and Social and Behavioral Sciences Division in the Academic Advising Programs, where she advised majors and minors across the disciplines. She received the Outstanding Advising Award: Certificate of Merit in the Faculty Advising category from the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) in 2012. She is currently the coordinator of the French High Beginners level, as well as French Conversation I. She is also the departmental Chair of the Technology and Innovation Committee and serves on the University’s Advisory Committee.

As her interests lie in foreign language proficiency and assessments, she has presented at the International Association for Language Learning Technology (IALLT), the Computer Assisted Language Instruction Consortium (CALICO), the American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL), and the Foreign Language Association of North Carolina (FLANC). She currently serves as the Institutes of Higher Education Representative for FLANC. She is a member of AATF, ACTFL, and FLANC, several University Honor Societies.

Areas of expertise: higher education, language teaching and learning, assessment, writing, culture, AR/VR in the foreign language, and advising.
