Dr. Murray has been in education since 1991. She started as a classroom aide in the Special Education department of the Los Angeles County Office of Education. Dr. Murray earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in education with an emphasis on Early Childhood Special Education at California State University-Dominguez Hills. She earned her doctoral degree at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She has served as a classroom teacher in the Buena Park School District and with the Los Angeles County Office of Education. She earned certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards which resulted in an advanced teaching credential.
Dr. Murray has also served as a Grant Reviewer in Washington D.C. for the United States Department of Education where she read and evaluated discretionary grant applications. She has won countless awards including Teacher of the Year and the prestigious Golden Apple Award from the Teacher’s Association of Long Beach and has received recognition in the United States Senate for her contributions to education. She is the founder of Autism Day Camp, a summer day camp designed for children with Special Needs. She developed the camp to provide a continuation of services to Special Needs children to prevent regression of skills during summer months.
Dr. Murray served as a Program Specialist for Long Beach Unified Schools District’s Child Development Centers as part of a leadership team responsible for the implementation of long-term strategies to bring a wide array of affordable child development services to more than 2,000 families in the greater Long Beach area. Dr. Murray served as Assistant Principal of Barton Elementary School and Smith Elementary School in Long Beach, California. She worked with faculty at Cal Poly Pomona gain NAEYC accreditation as the first Early Childhood Studies Baccalaureate Degree program at a California State University. Marybeth currently serves as full time faculty at Santa Monica College and consultant. She currently resides in the Los Angeles area.
