Chaonan Xu is an Associate Language Lecturer at the School of Languages, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.
Chaonan Xu graduated from the University of Groningen with an MA in Applied Linguistics in 2012 and after graduation, she worked as an IELTS teacher in a language school. Before joining XJTLU, Ms. Xu worked as an English language lecturer in a Sino-foreign joint college for seven years. She has over eleven years of English teaching experience in tertiary education. Having a great passion for language teaching, she enjoys collaborating with her students to uncover and address their individual needs, assisting students in reaching their full potential, engaging them in a variety of tech-enhanced teaching activities, such as ClassPoint, Padlet, and Wooclap, and exploring up-to-date pedagogies and teaching practices. She is patient and caring, and she always creates a benign classroom climate and provides gentle guidance to make students feel comfortable and confident in their language learning and acquisition. In class, she uses a much more dynamic usage-based approach to facilitate language learning and acquisition, as well as shares her own working and studying experience with students.
Chaonan achieved the Higher Education Academy (HEA) Fellowship in 2022. She served as the Principal Investigator of the Jiangsu Philosophy and Social Sciences Research Programme (2020SJA1558) titled "The Development of Global Competence based on a 5C Model” from 2020 to 2023, alongside Co-Investigators Dr. Jian Chen and Professor Xinli Zhang.
