Aoife Munroe is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Educational Psychology, Inclusive and Special Education at Mary Immaculate College (MIC), Limerick, Ireland. Aoife is a qualified primary school and has had an interest in special and inclusive education since completing her Bachelor of Education degree with a specialist focus in the area of Special Educational Needs at MIC. Aoife has held lecturing positions in the area of Special and Inclusive Education at ATU St Angela's, Sligo and MIC, Limerick with teaching, coordination and, research supervision responsibilities. Aoife has been directly involved in delivering input on Inclusive Provision in Initial Teacher Education programmes for primary and post-primary teachers. She also has experience working with qualified teachers undertaking postgraduate qualifications in the area of special and inclusive education.
Aoife’s research interests include autism, autism and girls, inclusive communication and child voice, inclusive education and inclusive and participatory research. Her PhD research aims to explore autistic girls’ experiences of mainstream education provision at post-primary level in the Republic of Ireland and is funded by the Irish Research Council under the Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Award.
