Pauline Mosley

Institution: Pace University, Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Technology

Country: United States

In 2000, Dr. Mosley joined Pace University as a Lecturer and ascended the ranks quickly securing tenure in 2006 as an Associate Professor and then she was promoted to Full Professor of Information Technology in the Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems in Pleasantville in 2012. Dr. Mosley’s research interests include utilizing robotics to teach problem-solving, computing, and cybersecurity concepts, on land and in water, as a pedagogical tool.

A strong believer in K12 STEM education, she has designed curricula to engage, inspire, and captivate students to learn STEM. She has explored gender methodologies and best design-thinking practices that motivate and facilitate STEM learning and self-efficacy in and out of the classroom and establishing STEM-bridges with afterschool programs. Dr. Mosley has worked with the White Plains GIRLS Academy and the White Plains YMCA GEMS Afterschool Program for the past six years in shaping and cultivating their STEM curriculum component. She has exposed these girls to LEGO Mindstorms, drones, and SeaPerch (water robotics). In 2018, she was recognized by the G.O.O.D. for Girls organization for her efforts and extensive mentoring of young girls within Westchester County and recognized by Legislator Jewel Williams-Johnson in 2023 for her outstanding work in closing the STEM gap for minority young women.

Dr. Mosley has launched several innovative STEM-4 Homework Help Afterschool Programs which focuses on self-efficacy, study skills, stamina, and STEM-enrichment at the Slater Center, WestHab and other non-profit organizations that specialized in afterschool offerings. She has mentored several White Plains high school students who have desired to do a WISE Project in lieu of graduation and has worked closely with K-12 Westchester schools in helping their STEM faculty integrate innovative STEM curricula within their respective disciplines. She credits her church, The Youth Mission of Life and Pastor William Mosley for cultivating her passion to help the youth and to always pursue excellence.

Dr. Mosley has received research funding from the National Science Foundation, National Security Association, Thinkfinity and conducted research projects with Morgan State University, Tennessee State University, Juxtopia, and the US Navy in systems engineering, design, virtual and augmented reality, advanced manufacturing, and minority engineering education. She has been the recipient of three GenCyber grants totaling $198,000 enabling her to develop a cybersecurity camp for high school students in collaboration with the US Navy and CISCO. Attendees of this camp learned how to create SeaPerch robots layered with cameras to cipher encrypted codes. This past summer Camp CryptoBot was featured on Channel 12 and in The New Yorker.

She has received several awards for teaching, research, mentoring and is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) and frequently serves on the program committee of national conferences in Information Technology. Journals in which her research has appeared include The Journal of Computing Sciences in Colleges, International Journal of Across The Disciplines and The Academic Exchange Quarterly. She is the author of: Navigating the Academy- A Guide for Women and Minority Faculty and the Cybersecurity Lesson & Educator Guide, which received the Best of STEM Award for 2022.
