Abstract
The study determined the levels of effectiveness of technology based instruction in English Preparatory Year Program at Jubail University College – Female Branch. This research was conducted in order to bring out the importance, effectiveness, and functions of technology enhanced lessons in English to the academic performance of students at JUC – Female Branch. It is therefore very significant to all students, teachers, and administrators in highlighting the nature of technology-enhanced lessons in English. The research found out that blackboard is necessary as part of the medium of instruction. As for the students, their academic performance in English communication skills highly improved after the integration of innovative devices in class lectures and school activities. Both teachers and students perceive that TEL are very highly utilized. Moreover, teachers view that utilizing modern devices in teaching is very effective and advantageous on their part and on part of their students. Students likewise recognize that TEL are very effective and conducive on part of their mentors and on the lectures delivered to them by their teachers. However, the level of utilization and effectiveness of TEL have no significant relationship with the academic performance of the students in English skills. It is hence recommended to still use innovative resources during lectures since they have played part in the promotion of interactive learning which somehow aided the students in developing their English skills. Likewise, teachers must continue to enhance their skills in using the ICT resources by continuously participating in various trainings/workshops so that they may efficiently deliver the lessons to the students.
Finally, it brought out some problems and possible solutions for teachers and students on the use of the Blackboard to enhance the lessons in English which may yield the possible correlations and differences in terms of the levels of utilization and its effectiveness.
