Quizlet & Dropbox: An Easy e-Setting for Busy Teachers
Bui Duc Tien, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education (Viet Nam)
Abstract
Many teachers of English have found technology a paradise of innovative and fancy tools, yet others have come to realize how daunting it can be to rely on such considering the amount of time spent in frustration. This presentation will introduce to attendants an easy classroom setting using technology, with only two major components: Dropbox and Quizlet. Dropbox is a platform for sharing files instantly between computers and devices amongst groups of users, and Quizlet makes for easy content revision (which can be designed by both the teacher and the student). In detail, Dropbox allows the teacher to be updated with students’ work without having to click on the ‘download’ button (as in LMS or via email systems); all the files are organized in folders and can be manipulated using basic computing skills. Quizlet, on the other hand, is highly user-friendly, making it extremely simple to create matching, multiple choice, and text completion exercises, even with visual and audio aids. Busy teachers will find this setting handy and most simple to establish. The presentation will include examples from the presenter's work with his own students and, internet access permits, give attendants an opportunity to try out the two tools.
