Abstract
From the foundation of Web 2.0 innovation, there has been a collective online communication into several educational settings. Through this technology, the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students have acquired numerous opportunities for expression of ideas, advance their involvement in the learning activities, as well as affirming their confidence in the virtual interaction session. Such advantages connect to the elements of a learning surrounding, which motivates the learners to learn English, leading to the advancement of learner autonomy. As such, this study reports on the evaluation and assessment of the influences of a web 2.0 Learning Management System (LMS) in an EFL course. Gauging from both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, the qualitative data collected from interviews comprising of eight undergraduate learners in a college located in Vietnam, was assessed to describe possible impacts of LMS in learners. The presentation continues with a discussion on the relationship among these two kinds of motivation with learner autonomy in Self-Determination theory. It then concludes with implications for EFL teaching practices with the adoption of LMS and puts forward suggestions for further research.
