Users’ Appraisal on Grammar Book Designed under Textual Enhancement Model for English Students at Iain Bukittinggi

Abstract
This study was intended to examine practicality of grammar book which the author designed under Textual Enhancement Model for Grammar learning at IAIN Bukittinggi. To carry out such test, the author attempted users’ appraisals to judge whether Textual Enhancement grammar book was practical or not to be used. In this model, the author designed grammar lesson of complex sentences accompanied by Islam-thematic texts by making salient grammar features taught by giving boldfaces and colours in every appearance of complex sentences within the texts in order to draw students’ attention to notice it. The researcher combined both quantitative and qualitative methods. She distributed questionnaires to English students and two grammar lecturers in order to obtain users’ responses towards grammar book used in terms of content, time, economical aspect and benefit they got from the book. She also interviewed some students and both lecturers to support quantitative data. The finding reveals that users’ appraisal on textual enhancement grammar book is positive that the book is very practical since it provides context for students to notice the grammar input and transfer it into intake and output. This result was proved by the score of practicality test, 85, which lies on very practical scale, 81-100.
