Abstract

The research study was an attempt to investigate the relationship between perfectionism and Iranian’s performance on IELTS. The participants were 301 IELTS candidates consisting of 159 Academic Training and 142 General Training test takers. They completed Measure of Constructs of Underlying Perfectionism (M-CUP) developed by Stairs et al. (2011) as a measure of evaluating perfectionism tendencies. Candidates’ scores on listening, reading, speaking, writing, and their overall score were applied as indication of performance on IELTS. The Spearman Rank Order Correlational Analysis revealed that there were significant relationships between order, black and white thinking, perceived pressure from others, and dissatisfaction subscales of perfectionism and speaking, listening, writing, and overall scores of Academic Training candidates. Moreover, in General Training module, order, satisfaction, and dissatisfaction had correlation with listening and speaking. Also, both Ego-Syntonic and Ego-Dystonic aspects of perfectionism correlated negatively with candidates’ performance on IELTS.
