The Effects of Blended Learning on EFL Students’ Vocabulary Knowledge

Abstract
In the late 20th, the new innovations in technological engines have led to an increase in the "integration of web-based resources into teaching. This revolution has forced the reformulation of curriculums and developed new approaches of teaching. Blended learning as new approach is a mixture of online learning supplement traditional face-to-face teaching and learning environment with different kinds of technology-based instruction that can help students choose their preferred learning style and become more autonomous in acquiring English as a second language. The advantages of blended learning technologies, the availability of computer technologies and the growth of the Internet led to a revolution in the pedagogical trend in second language. Teachers and students can implement blended learning in language learning through the utilization of Virtual Learning Environment as a supplementary means to help them develop their language and skills. It contains activities, audio and video clips, animation and graphs which can help to acquire new vocabulary.
Today, a blended learning is used as a supplementary means in developing students’ vocabulary knowledge. It gives opportunity to look creatively at how memorize and learn their vocabulary knowledge to use a variety of media to suit differing needs. The learner-centered construction of blended learning helps learners choose what and when to blend, so that it can be manipulated and controlled by learners rather than teachers. This paper discusses the vital role of a blended learning approach and its implementation in an EFL classroom especially in learning a new vocabulary.
