Aswan Fakhir Jasim, Misan University (Iraq)

Abstract

This paper purports to investigate and impact and validity of using classroom interaction on teaching English grammar for 1st year Iraqi EFL university learners. The classroom is often viewed as the primarily social site for language learning. The study, therefore, aims at exploring the difficulties encountered by college students in English as a foreign language and how to solve these problems by and the through the process of interaction. It is hypothesized that students in 1st learning English mostly lack fluency in speaking skill, compared to writing skill. In addition, classrooms are in shortage of modern techniques that facilitate the process of interaction, since classroom integration takes into consideration the verbal and non-verbal activities. In limitation, the research will focus upon students who learn English, more specifically, the English grammar. In the early stage of their learning process. One finding of the research is that teaching through interaction creates the suitable climate which is similar to the real world for learning the foreign language. It is found that there is a relationship between teaching through the interaction process and the use of language in everyday communication.
The paper is divided into three sections and conclusions. Section one introduces the fundamentals of the research such as the problem of the study, the aims, the hypothetical statements, the scope and the significance of the study. Section two is theoretical in nature. It unravels the conceptual areas of language learning and teaching; the areas of teacher and learner roles, the classroom interaction with its typology, and lesson presentation are wholly covered. If section two is theoretical, section three is applicable. So, the classroom activities and techniques like square-shape group session, including Write-pair switch, Heads Together, and Travelling Heads Together will be applied to verify the validity of the interaction process in learning English as foreign language. The research is rounded up with concluding remarks elicited from the analytical statement and the operational experimentation.
