Language Repertoires and Language Needs of Adult Refugees and Migrants through multilingual assessment tools: A Work-in-Progress
Anna Mouti, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece)
Abstract
In this work-in-progress multilingual assessment tools to measure individual differences related to language will be examined. This is part of a larger project (in progress) examining plurilingual profiles, repertoires and multilingual needs of adult refugees and migrants with a particular focus on L2 Greek and L2 Italian (in Greece and Italy). The issue of language education plays a very important role in the integration of refugee and migrant populations and the recognition of existing repertoires and language needs may form the planning dynamics of relevant programs and tailor-made courses. The general aim of this paper is to demonstrate how to detect and describe individual linguistic repertoires and language needs with appropriate tools and, there will be a series of tools presented and described. Prior studies conducted in Greece and Italy, using a variety of research methods when depicting language needs and linguistic profiles will also be presented (e.g. Bianco & Ortiz Cobo (2019), Mouti et al (2021).
