Abstract
To keep pace with nowadays’ global developments in the domains of education, business, and science among others, the mastery of the English language as being the world’s lingua franca and the language of globalisation, becomes a need. Accordingly, the Algerian government strives and paves the way to meet such a need. As a result, some educational reforms have been made among which is the integration of English into primary schools, a reform which has been adopted in 2022/2023. Given this, the present investigation aims to explore the effective strategies of teaching English to young learners (TETYL). In pursuance of this aims, we opted for an exploratory design. In specific, to collect the necessary data, we relied on the use of a questionnaire, classroom observation as well as semi-structured interviews as the mains instruments. Besides, we relied on SPSS version 20.0 to analyse the data. The result showed that the majority of the teachers rely on visual aids and the incorporation of games in their teaching. In addition, they use storytelling as strategy to enhance comprehension and engagement. What is more, they usually use repetitions and reinforcement techniques such as drills.
