Abstract
A further level of phonemic representation known as the (consonant and vowel) layer (henceforth CV), or CV phonology, describes the functional contexts inside a syllable, and then provides a straightforward explanation for such syllable-related events. This paper tries to answer the following questions:1- Can the model of CV phonology be applied to poetic text analysis? 2-What types of insights can this application provide? The major goal of this paper is to investigate how Milton's vocabularies and the lines of When I consider how my light is spent are organized hierarchically in his mind. Milton's poem was unintentionally constructed in a hierarchical fashion at many levels, and it tested due to segmental self-representations. This study also tries to demonstrate how the phonetic qualities are specified by analyzing it according to CV phonology.
Key words: CV, Non-linear, Segmental, SPE, Generative phonology
