Decoding Synonyms: Strategic Approaches to Language Mastery
Loay Badran, Zayed University (United Arab Emirates)
Abstract
Arabic students eager to learn English encounter numerous challenges, notably the substantial differences in vocabulary usage between Arabic and English. Arabic, rich in vocabulary due to its extensive and profound history, often leads to incorrect usage by learners, whether through overuse or misplacement of words. This study aims to demonstrate how a focused, culturally informed approach to teaching English synonyms to Arabic speakers can significantly enhance their language proficiency. An innovative educational curriculum tailored specifically for Arabic speakers is developed to improve their understanding and mastery of English vocabulary, thereby enriching their overall language experience. The multi-faceted curriculum includes comparative linguistic analysis, curriculum development focusing on vocabulary usage differences, and the creation of contextual learning modules that employ real-life scenarios for teaching synonyms. Additionally, technological integration through AI-based learning tools and experimental testing with control and experimental groups in classrooms are implemented. Outcomes of this approach will be measured using qualitative assessments and quantitative metrics, such as test scores and error analysis. Expected results suggest that participants will exhibit improved accuracy and appropriateness in their use of English synonyms compared to those receiving traditional education.
